Artist Statement
As an artist, I always try to incorporate my girly-girl side. My love for color and font design is something I try to incorporate into my work. My most passionate designs are social media flyers and political/social awareness flyers. I love how social ads are straight to the point but still are interactive. When creating social ads, I always try to incorporate color based on the message’s theme, and I try to involve a little bit of font design where the message is readable and engaging.
I am originally from Boston, MA. I am an inner-city kid who went to a charter school growing up. I always dream of going to an HBCU to learn more about my culture and find myself. I came to Bowie State University, not knowing what I wanted to do as a career. With my love for technology and art, I found myself wanting to pursue digital advertisement. After joining the BSU family, I am now a graduating senior with a Visual Communication & Digital Media Arts major with a concentration in Advertisement Design.
Thesis Statement
My senior thesis was inspired by Melissa Butler, the creator of Lip Bar, an organic makeup line for African Americans. Her line is animal cruelty-free and made of vegan products. Over two-thirds of black women experienced post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from their acne. A lot of African American women use more products with chemicals because it is cheaper than organic products. Face care products with chemicals can cause hormone disruption, reproductive damage, and cancer to their body. My goal is to brand a skincare line for African Americans to promote a safe skincare routine.
